What Is Blogging? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Paul Rome
Blogging has become very popular over the last few years, so unless you have been hiding under a rock you have likely heard the term. If you aren’t quite sure what exactly blogging is, don’t worry, you aren’t alone. The term blog is short for web log, which is essentially an online diary or place to jot feelings, opinions, facts, and reports. There are personal as well as professional and political blogs, so you can find a blog that covers just about every subject.

Those that blog are typically called bloggers and they usually enjoy blogging because they are allowed to express their opinions on just about everything. Some bloggers are part of a bigger blogging network that attracts a wide base of would be writers who have something to say. Other bloggers are affiliated with a business, a news or political organization, or a company and they blog about particular business matters. These are the blogs that get the most attention because they are high profile and can often be very controversial.

Blogging is usually somewhat of an open forum so that the contributor or contributors can share their feelings on a wide range of subjects. Many bloggers treat their blog much like you would a diary, by providing input once a day about the days events and their feelings about them. Other bloggers update their blog several times a day as they have new thoughts, events to share with readers, or if exciting news has presented the opportunity to write on a new subject.

Blogging is fun because when you write a blog you have the opportunity to share your thoughts, feelings, and opinions with the world. There are people from every side of the globe that get online and enjoy reading the blogs of others. Most blogs have a comment feature so that readers can leave comments to share thoughts, feelings, and views with the blogger as well as other readers. Sometimes the comments are nice, and other times they can get down right dramatic dependent upon the nature of the web log and its postings.

Blogging is simply a new way to communicate with one another. Many people use their blogs to network with other people who have common interests to make new friends, obtain new jobs, or meet other industry insiders. Anyone can have a blog, and what you discuss in your blog is truly up to you. Remember though, if you share your opinion when blogging others are bound to find your blog and share theirs, as well! Of course, this is part of the fun of blogging, though you may need to acquire a thick skin if you want to continue with topics that are controversial!
